  • The Pericles Project

This workshop is designed to examine existing political narratives about immigration. Through drama, we ask: what do Home and Displacement mean to us? What do these concepts mean to our refugee brothers and sisters?

The immigration debate in the UK is nothing new. Shakespearean England welcomed thousands of political and religious asylum seekers. This workshop takes inspiration from 'Pericles, Prince of Tyre', a play co-written by George Wilkins and William Shakespeare. In many ways, this play reflects the present-day experiences of refugees. Pericles faces danger by land and sea, in his quest to find home.

In the workshop, participants engage with modern day refugee stories and artworks, and create their own theatrical response.

With enormous thanks to Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcome Refugees and Palestinian writer Hebã El-Naami for their creative input.
